Manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (SIC division 23)
Division 23 of the UK SIC 2007 list. It holds 3 codes, listed in full below with the number of active UK companies filed under each.
What sits in division 23
Stone, concrete, ceramics and glass. The largest code is 23700, cutting, shaping and finishing of stone, which covers stonemasons and the memorial and worktop trades. Concrete products for construction, 23610, and ceramic household articles, 23410, follow. The division has twenty-four codes in the catalogue and only three of any size, so it is one of the more fragmented parts of manufacturing on the public record.
This is a construction-adjacent division and most of its buyers are the same: plant and tooling suppliers, aggregate and raw material merchants, haulage, and the insurers who cover heavy machinery. Stonemasons in particular are a distinct market with their own suppliers of CNC saws, diamond tooling and slab stock. The trade is geographically anchored because the material is heavy, so regional filtering works better here than in most divisions.
How to read a division 23 code
A UK SIC code is five digits and division 23 is the first two of them. Everything filed under 23 shares those digits: all 3 codes below begin 23, then the third digit narrows to a group, the fourth to a class and the fifth to the subclass a company actually picks. Division 23 sits inside section C, manufacturing, which is the broadest tier of the classification. So a code is read left to right, from an industry down to a specific activity.
More on how division 23 codes are built
Companies choose their own codes at incorporation and can change them on any confirmation statement, and Companies House does not check the answer. A company may list up to four. That is worth knowing before you treat any division total as a headcount: the numbers here are what companies said about themselves, on the August 2026 register, and the largest single code in this division is 23700, cutting, shaping and finishing of stone.
Working division 23 as a list
Division 23 holds 3 codes and 2,600 active companies between them. 23700 is the largest at 48 per cent and the other 2 codes account for the rest. That is balanced enough that the division is a reasonable unit to work, though the leading code alone will usually give you a cleaner list.
More on working division 23
A caveat that matters more in some divisions than others: a company may register up to four SIC codes, and the figures below count every position, not just the first. A business filed under two codes in this division appears under both. Treat the totals as reach rather than a headcount, and if you need a clean list, filter to companies whose FIRST code sits in the division. Every company you pull carries the Companies House record, the director's name, a verified website and a verified email, and the ones we cannot complete are not charged.

Division 23 questions
Are kitchen worktop fitters in 23700?
Often, yes, if they cut and finish the stone themselves. 23700 covers cutting, shaping and finishing, which is what a worktop fabricator does. A business that only installs pre-made tops fits better in a division 43 construction code. Plenty of firms do both and list one of each.
Where is glass manufacturing in this division?
In the 23100 range, manufacture of glass and glass products, though the UK company counts there sit below the threshold for a dedicated page. Companies working in glazing rather than making glass belong in 43342, glazing, which is a construction code and a much larger population.
