Most cold emails get deleted because they could have been sent to anybody. Here are two emails about the same company, written on the same day. One got a reply. One did not.

  2. 0:17

This is the one that did not work. It says hello, it says what we do, and it asks for fifteen minutes. Nothing in it is wrong. The problem is you could send it to ten thousand companies without changing a single word.

  3. 0:35

This is the one that worked. It says the company was set up six weeks ago. It names the trade. And it offers one specific thing, instead of asking for a meeting.

  4. 0:49

And every specific line came from something the company filed. The date it started. What it says it does. Who the director is. Nobody did any research. They just read the record.

  5. 1:05

Then a person reads it before it goes out. Nothing sends itself. You see the draft, you change whatever you want, and then you either send it or throw it away.

  6. 1:20

Write like you have read something about them. Because you have.

About this film

An email worth replying to runs 1:26, read by Imogen and appears on Leadistry's Outreach page. The full narration is above in 6 sections, so you can read it instead of watching if that is quicker. Every figure shown on screen comes from the Companies House public record or a named published source, and the companies used as examples are fictional specimens rather than real customers.
